Phew! What a Day!

We have been having BEAUTIFUL weather here. The high has hovered around 50 for quite a while. Today started off cold and has only gotten colder. The low tonight is supposed to be 3 degrees. Today of all days, our furnace broke. I was SUPER stressed. Our thermostat was set at 68 and upon returning home from an outing, our house was 60 degrees. It continued to drop through the rest of the afternoon. I was thinking things like "hypothermia, frostbite, death". The furnace guy FINALLY got to our house at 6:00 pm. It is now up to a balmy 65 in here and I am feeling very blessed.
In the middle of it all, my Grandpa passed away. He was 93 and had struggled with dementia for years. It was such a mix of emotions for me. I was relieved it was finally over, but saddened by the loss. Some get cranky and mean in the end, he went the other way. He became sweet, docile, childlike, and loving.

The Boys

Our boys are growing up. Carson likes to dress himself in the mornings.

16 and a half weeks

The doctor's appointment went well. The heartbeat was 138. We find out what we are having on January 12. Any guesses?

Total Lunar Eclipse of My Heart

For those of you who didn't get the chance to see the Lunar Eclipse, you missed out. It was really a neat experience, and it was really late at night/early in the morning. We took some great pictures of the event. We asked NASA if they wanted our pictures for their records, yep that good. CNN and MSN bought the copies from us as well. We hope you enjoy them.

First of all, I found it pertinent to our situation to leave the flash on and take a picture of our tree branches.
Then I took the following AMAZING picture of the Lunar Eclipse. Again, NASA accepted these for their files.
And another one a few minutes later. If you toggle back and forth, you can see slight differences.
I also captured a picture of a rare Melanie bug coming out of her cocoon.
I had the bug take a picture of me holding my hands properly in my lap.
I kinda like this bug.
Needless to say, it is not a bug, but Mel, and she was super excited to see the eclipse.

Three's Company...or so they say.

We are happy to announce that Melanie is expecting. She is currently 12 weeks and 2 days along. While she has not been feeling well, she says she is pleasantly ill and grateful to be pregnant. Enjoy the pictures of the newest addition to the Crockett family. The due date is June 1, 2011.

Good Day

This morning Dave and I went to the Stake Offices for an interview with what turned out to be the entire Stake Presidency. When the last member followed us in and shut the door I thought, "well, I guess he won't be assistant ward clerk after all..."
We had a great talk wherein Dave was extended the calling of 1st Counselor in the Bishopric. Exciting!
I think my favorite part of the whole ordeal is that at 26 years old my handsome hubby gets to be a High Priest. Everyone always needs a good Sunday nap right? :)

Today was also the Primary Program. I was excited and nervous. I served as the Primary Chorister for 6 months before I was called into Young Womens. I taught those kids every song except Come Follow Me. I was anxious to see how they did. I already knew they would do fabulously because the chorister following me has been phenomenal but I still felt like each and every one of them was my own child.
I got to sit on the stand and sing with them and even sing a duet with Christina (the chorister). It was a descant to I Belong To The Church of Jesus Christ. She and I stood on either side of the podium...I loved it. I LOVE singing with her because she is FABULOUS and it makes me feel like I sound better than I actually do :). I always love the Primary Program.

On top of all that I made rice pudding for dinner and I just love me a warm and creamy rice pudding. Yes, it was a good day!

I'm not gonna complain...

My sister Jenn is in town. Last night, Dave had a softball game that she babysat for so I could go cheer him on. While we were gone she made us a delicious treat. This morning she made AMAZING cinnamon rolls for breakfast, and she is going to babysit again for us tonight while we go on a date. Boy, life is rough...

I've Been Told!

Yesterday Carson and I were having a lazy afternoon. We were lying on my bed watching the results show of Dancing With the Stars. Meanwhile, we were munching on some pretzels. There weren't many left in the bag and before long, I had polished them off.
The moment Carson realized his snack had disappeared, he looks at me, puts his hands out, palms up (like when someone looks at you and says, "what?"), and lets out a funny combination of a growl and groan. Something like, "aarrggghhh-uuuhhhhhh".
He scoots off the bed, I hear him go down the stairs onto the main level, and then open the door that leads into the basement. A few minutes later he reappears in my doorway with a brand new bag of pretzels from our food storage.
He hold the bag up with one hand and points to it with the other and tells me, "Mommy, I got some more pretzels. If you eat these pretzels all gone, I will have to give you a biiiiiiiiiiiig spank on your biiiiiiiiiiiiig bum. Okay?"
I held as straight a face as I could manage and solemnly vowed to only eat what I was allotted.

I just struck GOLD!

I was at Michaels buying a skein of yarn when I decided to check out the second hand kids store in the same strip mall. I allow Carson to watch one movie a day and right now we are both tired of our selection.
I ducked into the the store just to glance at the movies to see if any Disney DVDs were available. I check every time I go (which isn't all that often) and all I have ever found is High School Musical. I know Disney DVDs are a hot item and fly off the shelves the minute they land there.
As it was, I sat on the floor with Drake in my lap right in front of the video floor to ceiling bookshelf. At first glance I thought I was seeing things wrong, and picked up what caught my attention to examine things properly. Here is what I found:

Snow White (in its original wrapping) - $5.99
Great Mouse Detective (in its original wrapping) - $5.99
Mary Poppins (in its original wrapping) - $5.99
Pinocchio (in its original wrapping) - $5.99
Up (in its original wrapping) - $3.99
Sleeping Beauty (the only one previously viewed) - $6.99

They all had multiple discs with the exception of UP. We don't have a Blu-Ray player but if we ever get one, we're all set. They also had fancy things written on them like, "Platinum Edition" or even better, "Diamond Edition"! I don't know what this means, but it has to be good right?!

As you can imagine, I snatched them all up and quickly called my hubby to tell him the good news, I was excited enough I was giggling...that is right...giggling. In fact, I might or might not still be giggling...

Drake Turns 1!

Drake's Birthday was Tuesday and we celebrated with Hostess Cupcakes (Grandma Crockett will make a fun birthday cake for him when we are in town this weekend) and a few gifts. Neither of my boys have been huge cake fans. I am sure that will change someday, but for now, it's more about messes than anything else.

All three of my wonderful boys. I need more pictures like this...

Then we did gifts. We had a $5 dollar budget...we will be living like paupers for the next 40 years thanks to a moving, a new house, and a new car. Drake got, a couple of balls. He LOVES balls, in fact, that is his only word other than "mama" and "dada". He also got toothbrushes and a fun truck.

I don't know why we bought anything in the first place...immediately after "opening" his gifts, he went straight for the cup and played with it for quite a while. This picture cracks me up because he has managed to fit his entire face into a very average sized cup.
Drake also had a doctors appointment this week. I have learned that I really do love my doctor but feel that her nurses/assistants are incompetent. Every time I come away, I wonder about how/why they did something a certain way, I question their measurements, and just overall knowledge. Just yesterday they asked me if I had started potty training Drake; I found that odd. Allow me to demonstrate my doubts through stats:

9 month appt:

23 pounds 2 ounces
31 inches
19 inches (head circumference)

1 year appt:

24 pounds 12 ounces
31 inches
18.75 inches

WEIGHT: so....in the past three months Drake has managed to gain weight AND thin out...hmmm. ( I say this because he clothes are all baggier and shorter by far than they were three months ago. And wouldn't you think I could tell if my baby put on two pounds and for how short (compared to me:) he is?? Also, the baby scale they weigh him in is TINY and he won't sit still. Yesterday he kept opening the cupboard that was behind the scale, and grabbing at the scale itself, pushing buttons, etc. The nurse finally got tired of trying and finally wrote down the weight she saw next. (If I had to guess though, I would say he IS somewhere around 25 pounds... I don't think it was THAT far off)

HEIGHT: like I mentioned above, Drake supposedly hasn't put on any height in the past 3 months. I could go on and on about why he seems taller to me but whatever.

HEAD: according to them, his head has shrunk...nuff said.

The stats aren't important to me except for fun/journal purposes. I wasn't even sure I should include them on this post since they don't seem accurate. Oh well; still fun I guess :)

In the past year with Drake, we have discovered:
-He is fairly mellow
-He will keep himself entertained MUCH better than Carson ever did
-He has an awesome belly laugh
-He is very affectionate and loves to snuggle
-Our home is incomplete without him
-We are lucky to be his parents
